happy happenstance

Just back from three wonderful celebratory days in New York City, and the wedding of dear Heather and Victor on their 10th Anniversary of their first date together. It was the most special event I've attended since, oh, about 6 or 7 years ago! Fantastic days.

The whole event was actually crawling with photographers because their professional photographer actually had two assistants in tow, and when he learned that I was a budding amateur, he welcomed me to keep my camera out of the bag and snap all I liked. It was great. I was gleaning tips from the other guys, comparing settings and generally watching their actions.

This shot seemed an appropriate one to share: because there were actually four of us with serious gear taking pictures, this was a happy coincidence where two flashes and two cameras enjoyed a symbiotic synchronization.

Yes, they make a beautiful couple!

  1. That's great that the photogs were cool and shared their knowledge. That's been my experience more than the opposite.

So what did you learn? Share!

This is a beautiful capture of a great moment. We so wish we could have been there -- in fact, we had planned on going but decided it would be a whirlwind tour and thought it might be more fun for everyone (tiny person included) if we wait and figure out a time that Victor and Heather can show us the cool kid-friendly spots. So we very much enjoy this photo as a way of sharing the moment with the family who were there in spirit, if not in person.

I love the flash in the background as a hairlight. Were you using your strobes too, or shooting available light (Available does include "other peoples' flash", doesn't it?)

And lastly and most importantly, CONGRATULATIONS Heather and Victor! We love you guys!
